Authorship and Acknowledgement Guidelines for ISCPS Core Facilities
Personnel in core facilities provide essential service for users and it is important to recognize their contributions to the scientific advancement of projects. The type of recognition that is most appropriate may be different for individual project, depending on the contribution that core facility personnel provide. Thus, it is vital that Core Facilities and relavent staff are acknowledged in publications in order to document the value of core facilities.
Important reasons for acknowledging contributions from core facilities in publications, by co-authorship or by formal mention in the acknowledgment section, include:
²Core facility personnel are scientists. When they make substantial intellectual and/or experimental contribution to a publication, they deserve to be acknowledged just as other co-authors.
²The existence of core facilities depends on the part in proper acknowledgment in publications. This is an important metric of the value of most core facilities. Proper acknowledgment of core facilities enables to obtain financial and other support, so that they may continue to provide their essential services in the best way.
The following example could be appropriate foracknowledgement sectionat the end of the manuscript:
We thank Dr. XXX from Instrumentation and Service Center for Physical Sciences (ISCPS) at Westlake University for the assistance/discussion/supporting in XXX measurement/data interpretation.
Possible authorship if more sophisticated intellectual input was provided by the facility:We kindly request users to consider facility member for co-authorship on publications where the facility or scientists have provided in-depth help in designing, testing/setting-up experimental conditions, and analyzing raw data of experiment or when the facility provided extensive and flexible service. We understand and accept that the final decision on the form of credit lies with PIs in each research.
